We Knew Ronald Reagan…And POTUS, You’re No Ronald Reagan!

The Donald’s claim that the abominal OBBB passed by the House last week is the greatest economic program ever enacted puts us in mind of Senator Lloyd Bentsen’s famous remark from the 1992 vice presidential debate with Dan Quayle. When the latter compared himself to the 35th president, Bentsen shot back,

Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy.

Needless to say, Donald Trump is no Ronald Reagan. Yes, we did know the Gipper, and he was a humble, thoughtful, soft-spoken, philosophically-grounded stateman—the very opposite of the bombastic, loud-mouthed, egomaniacal, principle-free buccaneer who inhabits the Oval Office at present.
