Washington’s At It Again—Attempting To Drive A Dump Truck Through A Pinhole
The Uniparty blob is in the midst of a tooth-and-nail battle over “border security”—with the House GOP literally preparing for a last stand at the Alamo and points south. As Washington’s favorite liberal rag reported this AM,
“Since taking the gavel in October, Speaker Johnson has been clear that America needs transformative policy changes to secure the southern border,” the spokesperson said. “Before he visited the border, at the border, and since leaving the border, Speaker Johnson has said we need to fix the broken parole system, reform the asylum process, reinstitute Remain in Mexico, end catch-and-release, and finish constructing the border wall. Together, these policies would stop the flow of illegal aliens and safeguard Americans.”
“His position has not changed. The Senate must pass policies that actually secure the border,” the spokesperson added.
Well, no, it needn’t pass anything of the sort. That’s because there is no meaningful “security” problem at the border. The chaotic mass of humanity piled-up there is the result of an absolutely idiotic immigration quota and control policy that originates in the Washington Swamp, not among evil-doers south of the border.
Indeed, the current immigration policy is so utterly stupid that it amounts to attempting to drive a dump truck through a pinhole. Literally.
You don’t need to be an immigration expert to ascertain from the endless Fox News clips of the teeming migrant crowds at the border that these are overwhelmingly unskilled and low-skill potential workers and their families looking for economic opportunity in the land of the free.
But in 2022 the total number of unskilled workers granted legal permanent resident status was, well, just 4,351 fortunate souls.
That’s right. The geniuses in Washington saw fit to legally admit a total of 1,018,349 immigrants in 2022, but just 0.4% of these were under quota categories EW3 and EW8 for unskilled workers.
As a practical matter, therefore, the 2.2 million migrants “apprehended” by the Border Patrol in FY 2022 were being forced by regulatory madness to—
First, break the law by crossing the border in order to get arrested.
And then apply for asylum status under a convoluted bureaucratic procedure that can take months and years to complete, and which requires applicants to provide extensive proof of endangerment in their home country, when what actually matters is their ability to work, live and become good citizens of the United States.
By contrast to the bureaucratic pinhole for entry by unskilled workers, here is a summary of the regulatory categories by which the remaining 1,013,998 legal immigrants came to America in 2022. And the overwhelming share of these came with visas granted in US consulates abroad, arriving at US ports of entry in the ordinary way and having their papers stamped at the non-US citizens passport control window.
No muss, no fuss—two minutes and you’re done. And not one of the 1,013,998 persons involved added an iota to the teeming border “invasion”.
