So the question recurs: Why do we continue deporting willing foreign workers when we should be aggressively importing them?
As we have seen, the real answer cannot be admitted to by the Trumpite/GOP. Even they would be reluctant to acknowledge they wish to deploy the Border Patrol and other law-enforcement arms of the state for the purpose of keeping potential Democrat voters out of the country.
Unfortunately, the “drugs and crime” cover story involves more than just erroneous facts with respect to cross-border drug traffic and crime rates among immigrants. The truths here easily dispatch these smokescreens
The larger nasty is that the once and former party of fiscal austerity, free market economics and constitutional liberty has gone off the deep-end of statism and cultural chauvinism on the matter of immigration. As a result, the workingman’s party built in modern times on President William McKinley’s “full lunch pail” economics and the vast ranks of immigrant labor in America’s Midwestern industrial belt has gone restrictionist, nativist, xenophobic and blindly intolerant.
Needless to say, the GOP’s descent into the dark side was only made worse by the Donald’s harsh law and order demagoguery ala the campaign launch imagery of June 2015 that has now become embedded in the Trumpite catechism:
……They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people”
