The Donald’s Trade War On Fentanyl Is Sheer Madness
Someone needs to talk some sense to the Donald. Soon!
Putting $5.3 trillion of America’s two-way trade with the world in harms’ way owing to Fentanyl is sheer madness. That’s because the latter is a scourge of Washington’s own making arising from America’s idiotic “war on drugs”, and one that can be eradicated in one fell swoop by ending yet another failed foray into government enforced prohibition, as we amplify below.
Yet like in so many other cases, the Donald chooses to demagogue the “furiners” and use this easily fixable plague as an excuse for indulging in his favorite pastime—standing up “big beautiful tariffs”.
Drugs are still pouring into our Country from Mexico and Canada at very high and unacceptable levels. A large percentage of these Drugs, much of them in the form of Fentanyl, are made in, and supplied by, China. More than 100,000 people died last year due to the distribution of these dangerous and highly addictive POISONS.
Millions of people have died over the last two decades. The families of the victims are devastated and, in many instances, virtually destroyed. We cannot allow this scourge to continue to harm the USA, and therefore, until it stops, or is seriously limited, the proposed TARIFFS scheduled to go into effect on MARCH FOURTH will, indeed, go into effect, as scheduled. China will likewise be charged an additional 10% Tariff on that date. The April Second Reciprocal Tariff date will remain in full force and effect. Thank you for your attention to this matter. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
In the first place, there is not one bit of legislative history, precedent or even wild-ass rhetoric from any prior US official suggesting that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977—upon which Trump’s newest tariff orders are predicated—was ever intended to be a tool in Washington’s pointless war on drugs.
To be sure, the IEEPA is one of the more dangerous, open-ended enabling acts the US Congress has ever enacted. It is exactly why we now have an all powerful, unelected “administrative state” run by a permanent nomenklatura domiciled on the banks of the Potomac. But even the loose language of the IEEPA does not give so much as a hint that it is intended to cover a public health matter of limited scope and debatable cause.
