Natcons, Neocons, Taxcons and Justcons, Part 3
Here’s a truth-check that the Donald and his Natcon (national conservative) propagandists surely find most unwelcome. To wit, in the overwhelming share of cases the teeming hordes at the southern border are not comprised of criminals, mental patients, drug dealers, gang members or true political asylum-seekers.
To the contrary, the US borders in Texas and the southwest are being flooded with economic migrantsbecause UniParty politicians on the banks of the Potomac want it that way. That is, in standard fashion they take care to manufacture and perpetuate a “problem” so that they can then champion a statist solution designed to win brownie points with their respective constituencies.
As we have indicated, a large-scale Guest Worker program administered through scores of US embassies and consulates in Latin America would reduce the traffic at the borders by 90%, at the least. For instance, here are the 20 such State Department offices in Mexico alone—each of which handle thousands of visa applications each year, and in an orderly way that is the very opposite of the hazardous rag-tag coyote-run caravans streaming toward the Rio Grande.
But these immigrant visa applications are for dozens of family unification categories, several skilled worker designations, a multitude of student and research categories, the diversity lottery etc, which result in upwards of 500,000 immigrant visas issued per year at State Department operations like the Mexican ones located all around the world. And that’s on top of 10 million tourist and other non-immigrants visas also issued by these offices.
So the bureaucratic processing machinery is in place at the consulates and embassies and is functioning smoothly at high annual volumes. And for the most part they do so with no muss, no fuss and no endless exposes on Fox News about evil-doers at the border.
The problem is, there are no material visa categories for economic migrants with ordinary worker skills or just strong backs and a willingness to work. They don’t go to the US consulates because there are no visa slots for unskilled workers—so, instead, they trudge to the US border where there are unlimited “asylum” slots waiting on the other side.
There is only one catch, however. They must break the law first by crossing the border in order to get arrested, be placed in the asylum cue and become a law enforcement “encounter” statistic, like the 8 million migrant “encounters” that have allegedly occurred at Joe Biden’s “open borders” since January 2021.
So here’s an idea that both wings of the UniParty would abhor: Namely, open up a wide “Jobs Gate” for the issuance of Guest Worker visas at the 2o red dots, stars and squares on the map above, with similar arrangements in countries all the way down to Argentina and Chile, while, at the same time, slamming shut the wide-open “Asylum Gate” at the US border, except for the most extenuating cases.
