When it comes to wielding the immense powers of the state to purportedly “fix” things–including its ultimate power to take your property, freedom and very life—there is nothing more fatal than politicians championing an erroneous diagnosis. An errant problem definition and framework is virtually guaranteed to yield a policy intervention that is far more trouble than the ills it purportedly addresses.

The Trump Administration’s bungled approach to immigration is surely a classic case in point. The Donald’s oft and loudly spoken predicate is that America has been the victim of an “INVASION” by evil doers outside our borders. This includes faithless governments which allegedly ship northward their criminals, lunatics and other socially dysfunctional human flotsam and jetsam and the criminal cartels who operate a violent but lucrative business in human trafficking, drug-running and other criminal enterprises associated with the resulting hordes of migrants.
