Joe Biden’s Economic Whopper
We hadn’t been able to think of any president who did more unwarranted boasting about his economic achievements than Donald Trump. Well, until this week when Joe Biden unleashed a whopper for the ages. During a speech in Chicago the nation’s teleprompter reader-in-chief had the gall to call the catastrophe known as Bidenomics a roaring success.
And don’t take our word for it. Here’s the essence of his risible boasting:
And guess what? Bidenomics is working. When I took office, the pandemic was raging and our economy was reeling, supply chains were broken, millions of people unemployed, hundreds of thousands of small businesses on the verge of closing after so many had already closed — literally, hundreds of thousands on the verge of closing.
Today, the U.S. has had the highest economic growth rate, leading the world economies since the pandemic. The highest in the world. (Applause.)
As Dick said, with his help, we created 13.4 million new jobs. More jobs in two years than any president has ever — (applause) — made in four — in two.
And, folks, it’s no accident. That’s Bidenomics in action. Bidenomics is about building an economy from the middle out and the bottom up, not the top down. And there are three fundamental changes that we decided to make with the help of Congress and been able to do it: first, making smart investments in America; second, educating and empowering American workers to grow the middle class; and third, promoting competition to lower costs to help small businesses.
It’s hard to know what to debunk first amongst this tommyrot, but just consider the 13.4 million new jobs baloney. Joe Biden didn’t create them; his policies didn’t help; and the overwhelming share of that number is accounted for by born again jobs, not new ones.
In February 2020 right before Donald Trump ordered the shutdown of the US economy and the blue state mayors, governors and public health departments zealously jumped on board trying to out-Fauci, Fauci, there were 158.75 million employed Americans according to the BLS household survey. During the most recent month (May) that figure posted at 160.72 million.
Again, not our long-hand subtraction. Our trusty HP 12c Platinum calculator computes the net gain as 2.2 million, which is a far cry from Biden’s 13.4 million fairy tale.
