Hey, Republicans! How About Some Peace, Freedom And Prosperity, Part 1
The GOP got shellacked yesterday, and our very astute friend, Jeffrey Tucker, was quick to put the key question front and center:
Crime, disaster economy, excess deaths, middle class disappearing, cities melting, nation in free fall: Democrats should be toast. Blue states should be turning red. Anyone have any idea why instead they are winning? Is something wrong with the other (Republican) side? Anything stand out?
As a matter of fact, yes, it most surely does!
The GOP has utterly and completely abandoned its core mission in the tussle of democratic governance. It should be the party of peace, liberty, free market prosperity and financial sobriety in opposition to the profligate “Government Party” of the Dems. Yet the GOP has been hijacked lock, stock and barrel by political crusaders bent on using the power of the state to impose their own sectarian values, ideologies and theories of societal betterment on a nation that is already badly over-taxed, over-governed and over-edified by Big Government and its Nanny State factotums.
The hijackers we’re speaking of here encompass the neocon warmongers, the immigrant thumpers, the culture warriors and the anti-abortion activist especially. None of these crusades will help the cause of less government and more liberty, and they profoundly distract from the urgent need to rein-in the nation’s soaring public debts, shrink its bloated Warfare/Welfare States and shackle its wildly destructive and inflationary central bank.
What is worse, these errant crusades undoubtedly repel more voters than they gain in those demographic precincts on the electoral margin where the GOP must find victory if it is to regain and retain a voter mandate. We are referring to suburban women, Hispanics, young people, wage workers and middle-income families struggling to pay for food, energy and shelter.
That the GOP’s messaging is missing these targets by a country mile is dramatically evident in the politics of Kentucky. For one thing, the state’s most prominent Republican, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, recently informed voters that the single most important business pending before Congress is winning the proxy war against Russia!
