Talk about fiddling while Rome burns. Two days ago the CBO updated it 10-year budget outlook and reminded the beltway sleepwalkers that their alleged $1.5 trillion deficit reduction in return for raising the debt ceiling yet again last June didn’t do one damn bit of good.
Here’s their latest “Rosy Scenario” outlook and it encompasses another $20 trillion in red ink thru FY 2034—with the budget gap getting steadily worse as the decade ahead unfolds. CBO projects deficits will grow to $1.8 trillion by 2025, breach $2.0 trillion by 2031, and rise to $2.6 trillion by 2034. Red ink will remain above 5.0% of GDP as far as the eye can see and reach 6.4% by 2033.
CBO Baseline Budget Projections, February 2024
These projections point to endless and accelerating accumulation of public debt and are surely shocking to the uninitiated, but not to the Uniparty Fiddlers. In fact, the CBO report must have been some kind of triggering event to open the red ink floodgate even wider among the feckless rearguard of RINO Republicans in the US Senate. Without missing a beat, the very next day 17 of these cats had the nerve to vote through a $95 billion billion supplemental for every woebegone supplicant on the planet—none of whom implicate America’s homeland security in the slightest.
As it happened, this $95 billion so-called national security supplemental passed the Senate on a 67-32 vote despite Rand Paul’s heroic efforts to stop the gravy train. His threatened filibuster was over-ridden only on the basis of 17-votes from the aforementioned GOP RINOs, who dished-out the following subventions in support of the Empire’s latest misadventures.
$60.1 billion to support the War Party’s bloody but pointless proxy war against Russia in Ukraine.
$14.1 billion in security assistance for Israel, which could readily fund this amount with a 2-3 percent of GDP tax increase on its own citizens, who otherwise keep electing the Netanyahu rejectionist claque based on its access to an ATM in the U.S. Capitol Building.
$2.4 billion to support operations in the U.S. Central Command related to snuffing out the Houthi’s and clearing the sea lanes on the Red Sea—neither of which situations impact America’s homeland security in the slightest.
$9.2 billion in humanitarian assistance for food, water, shelter, medical care, and other essential services to compensate for Washington-sponsored or enabled wars in Gaza, the West Bank, Ukraine, and other populations caught in the Empires “peacekeeping” operations.
$4.8 billion to support Washington’s meddling in the Indo-Pacific region and to take sides in a 75-year-old conflict between the losers of the Chinese civil war on Taiwan and the winners on the mainland—despite Tiawan being irrelevant to the security and liberty of Americans on this side of the Pacific moat.
$4.4 billion of odds and sots to continue support for refugees fleeing Washington’s wars in Ukraine and countless other god-forsaken corners of the planet.
